Herbie is the best friend anyone could ever have. He loves his toys and hunting in the barn for any animal that may have ever walked thru his space. He loves to ride in the car, truck and on the four wheeler barking at the cows, people or other dogs that we pass.
Whenever I am having a bad day or feeling ill he will bring me his favorite toy "Puppy Baby" and stay with me until I am feeling better.
Seems like just yesterday he was just a little guy in the palm of my hand. My plans are for Herbie to be the oldest living dachshund in history. Even when he is not feeling so well he is still the best friend in my life. Doxie owners are the luckiest people on earth to have such brave, strong, funny little friends.
December 2013: Aging is not always a kind thing. In the past 2 yrs Herbie has lost most of his hearing, some of his sight and now the saddest and hardest to accept is Dementia. There are times when Herbie does not know where he is or who I am and I feel so sad for him because I am not able to comfort him when he thinks I am a stranger. Herbie is on meds for his dementia and meds to help him be calm when he gets confused. I am thankful for the moments when he does know who I am and lets me hold him. Herbie will be 16 on Feb 5,2014 and my birthday wish for him is for him to be happy and once more remember how much I love him. He is still and always will be my best and most loving friend.

This is my saddest moment and last update for my special little boy Herbie. Today Herbie crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge and my prayers are someday to be reunited with the strongest love in my life.Herbie 02/05/1998 - 09/04/2014

He was in the ASPCA fun walk and costume contest. He is about 14 months old in this picture. I think he should of won first place for just being cute. This costume really matches his personality.
